State engagement variability in the IMAGEN dataset plotted by visit and sex. Data were collected at ages 14, 19 and 22. Ages 19 and 22 showed greater fixation and high-cognition state engagement variability than those aged 14. However, no significant age difference was observed for low-cognition and cue/transition state engagement variability. Ages 19 and 22 did not differ significantly in state engagement variability for any brain states examined.
