Model for regulation of β1 integrin signaling by hERG channel activity. After integrin engagement by the ECM, the β1 subunit, linked to the hERG1 protein, coassembles with caveolin-1. hERG channels are thereby activated, changing their conformation and leading to a hyperpolarization of the membrane. This channel activity induces the recruitment of FAK to hERG1 protein and their subsequent tyrosine phosphorylation of FAK and activation of Rac1.
