A model of PhLP-mediated Gβγ dimer assembly. The schematic diagram depicts a proposed mechanism for Gβγ dimer formation that is consistent with current data. CK2 phosphorylated PhLP binds and stabilizes the nascent Gβ polypeptide in a near-native conformation until Gγ can associate. PhLP-Gβγ forms a transient complex whose equilibrium is rapidly drawn toward dissociation because of Gβγ binding to the endoplasmic reticular membrane and Gα. See text for details.
