The membrane association ability of subdomains in the gp41 cytoplasmic tail was assessed by membrane flotation assay as described in the text.
The results for the multimerization potential of the cytoplasmic tail subdomains, as assessed by gel filtration analysis of the maltose-binding protein fused to these subdomains, were extracted from a previous paper (39). ND, not determined.
