Entry of noncomplemented HSV-1 gD mutants into HaCaT cells. HaCaT cells were infected with 5 or 1 PFU of wild-type HSV-1 F or F-US6kan or with an equal number of particles (normalized for nucleocapsid protein) of RR1097 or KOS gD⁻. After 2 h, the virus was removed, and the cells were labeled for 5 h with [³⁵S]methionine-cysteine. The HSV immediate-early protein ICP47 was immunoprecipitated from cell extracts.
