Fracture mechanism of a geriatric acetabular fracture. A fall from a standing position to the side results in a transfer of force from the greater trochanter via the femoral neck to the femoral head, where the force is then transferred to the anterior superior into the acetabulum. A reduced bone density causes the acetabulum to collapse/fracture.
