Top: a selected example of a poor approximation using standard DEIM sampling based on four XAS spectral standards with background variations, resulting in seven sampling points. Bottom: a selected example using oversampling, achieved by applying DEIM to the edge region in isolation and combining with the standard DEIM estimation across the full range. This resulted in 11 unique points rather than 14 (two regions with seven DEIM points per region) due to some duplication, which is to be expected.
