Potentiometric titration of mid-exponential- and stationary-phase E. coli D21g cells. Acidities are presented in milliequivalents per 108 bacterial cells, as determined from the amount of NaOH consumed during titration. Titrations were performed in 10−2 M KCl and at a temperature of 25°C.
