Notes
Risk of bias
Bias Authors' judgement Support for judgement
Random sequence generation (selection bias) Unclear risk Study had a "random" design
Allocation concealment (selection bias) Unclear risk Not stated
Incomplete outcome data (attrition bias)
All outcomes Low risk Attrition rate: 17% (33/191). Unlikely to affect results
Selective reporting (reporting bias) Low risk All outcomes reported fully (n and % for categorical scales; number of participants, means and SDs for continuous scales)
Blinding of participants and personnel (performance bias)
All outcomes Low risk Blinding not possible, but performance bias minimised by training of staff delivering interventions, use of a detailed manual, and audiotaping and reviewing of sessions to assess adherence to protocol
Blinding of outcome assessment (detection bias)
All outcomes Unclear risk Not stated
