Table 2.

Detectability of the plastics using microwave technologies. The wave conditions, the type of plastic, the concentration and the size of the plastic items is varied (see supplementary material). In table 1, an overview is presented of the different microwave technologies. The C-band (4–6 GHz and 6–8 GHz) and X-band (8–10 GHz) with VV polarization was measured by two setups with different look-up angles. When only one device detected the plastic, it is referred to as “sometimes detectable”. * the detectability for L band is based on statistical analysis (see 3.1.3), while the detectability for S- to K-band is based on the level of backscattering.
