Stiffness regulates TAM features and functions in the TME of HCC. Increased ECM stiffness leads to enhanced ECM crosslinking, which is reported to regulate macrophage polarization into M2 type through mechanoreceptors such as Piezo1, TRP ion channels, and integrins.
