At time of euthanasia, lungs were collected in formalin and sections were stained using hematoxylin and eosin (a) and immunohistochemistry using an anti-NiV N antibody was performed (b). Scale bar, 50μm. Presence of histological lesions and viral antigen were scored as described in Methods by a board-certified veterinary pathologist and graphed in (c) and (d), respectively. Open symbols represent animals that survived until the end of the experiment; closed symbols represent animals that reached euthanasia criteria. Bars represent mean and error bars indicate standard error of the mean.
