Proposed model of Lachnospiraceae ‐sustained hematopoiesis. Disruption of the intestinal microbiome with depletion of Lachnospiraceae contributes to antibiotic‐associated neutropenia. We hypothesize that Lachnospiraceae‐derived metabolites including citrulline, 4‐ureidobutyrate, 2′‐deoxyuridine, and N‐acetylglucosamine are absorbed from the intestine and travel to the bone marrow where they promote steady‐state hematopoiesis.
