Figure 1

A 30-year-old futsal male player suffered from an acute stabbing pain felt at the medial aspect of the right calf during the match. At 72 hours a muscular myoaponeurotic injury (type 1) was diagnosed. Axial axis US image (A) of a type 1 injury shows the perimysium retracted with distorsion of muscle fibers (arrowheads) and an intact aponeurosis. Sagittal fat-suppressed TSE intermediate-weighted image (B) of the same type of injury shows a thickening of the aponeurosis without gaps and feathery edema of the anchored muscle fibers (arrows). There is no hematomas. See Video 1 showing synchronous motion of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. US, ultrasound; TSE, turbo spin-echo.
