Dendrogram based on pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) profiles of 33 clinical and fecal isolates of Escherichia coli sequence type 131 (ST131) from the members of 6 households. Profiles are diverse, despite all isolates deriving from the same ST, which reflects the superior resolving power of PFGE over MLST. Isolates from a given household cluster together, consistent with intrahousehold strain sharing. Scale is % profile similarity. All isolates were fluoroquinolone-resistant.
