Peripheral blood and bone marrow smears. (A) Peripheral blood smears were pancytopenic with circulating blasts, large promyelocytes (120× objective). (B) Bone marrow smears showed hypercellularity with abnormal large promyelocytes with a prominent nucleus and heavily granulated cytoplasm (Auer rods were occasionally observed).
