Endoscopic removal (Colonoscopy) |
For a minority of uncomplicated perforations. Where the device is situated within the lumen or embedded in the internal aspect of the wall. Coloscopic retrieval may present difficulties if the device is partially integrated into adjacent structures and surrounded by granulation tissue. |
Surgical removal (laparoscopy or laparotomy) |
Necessary when the IUD is inaccessible endoscopically or if complications such as bowel perforation, abscess formation, or bowel obstruction are present. |
Antibiotic therapy |
Required when there is evidence of infection or abscess. |
Pain management |
Use of analgesic medications to alleviate symptoms. |
Psychological support |
Counseling and support for anxiety or emotional distress. |
