Table 1.
Indicators of the effect of TLC–S on the respiratory rates (V2 V3 V4) of isolated rat liver mitochondria (M ± m).
| α-Ketoglutarate | Succinate | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| V2 | V3 | V4 | V2 | V3 | V4 | |

| TLC–S | 0.09 ± 0.01 | 0.15 ± 0.01* | 0.08 ± 0.01 | 0.10 ± 0.01 | 0.22 ± 0.04 | 0.06 ± 0.01 |
V2 corresponds to the “resting” state (State 2) of mitochondria, where the addition of an exogenous substrate leads to a slow respiration rate. V3 represents the “active” state (State 3) of mitochondrial respiration, induced by the addition of 50 μM ADP. V4 denotes the “controlled” state (State 4) of the mitochondria, wherein the complete conversion of ADP to ATP occurs within the polarographic chamber. *p ≤ 0.05 vs control.
