Advantages and Limitations

Advantages
  • Small incision

  • Less postoperative pain

  • Local anesthetic

  • Quicker return to activity

  • Can be performed in the office setting

  • Decreased setup time given disposable instrumentation kit and simplified scope system (no light cable or scope coupler required)

Limitations
  • Patient may be anxious when performed awake in office setting

  • Separate open incision is needed if nerve decompression or resection of any calcaneal enthesophytes is required
