Figure 2

(a) Computed energy loss distribution obtained from MDEF simulations of specular scattered H atoms from Pt(111) with different friction models. The experimental data is taken from ref (2). The H atoms were launched along the [101̅] direction with an initial kinetic energy Ekin,i of 1.92 eV and an incidence angle of θi = 45°. The surface temperature was set to 300 K. The colored, transparent schemes indicate the 95% confidence interval of the calculated ELDs. (b) Energy loss distributions simulated at a surface temperature of 10 K. All other parameters are the same as in panel a. (c) Inset depicts the scattering geometry of the simulations.
