Rectal application of E. coli ONT:H25 or E. coli O157:H7 in calves. The average number of bacteria detected by RAMS culture over time is shown. Two groups of four calves each were rectally inoculated with 1.7 × 1010 CFU of E. coli ONT:H25 strain SH2 (•) or with 1.9 × 1010 CFU of E. coli O157:H7 ATCC 43894 (▵). There was no significant difference in the average log10 bacterial count between the two groups (P > 0.05, Student's t test).
