Learners making a contribution to their organisations

Laura
Laura was a principal in general practice. She worked in medical education and then for a health authority. More recently, she joined a public health training programme and ultimately wants to work for a primary care trust.
“I can turn my hand to almost anything and enjoy it, provided the people are good to work with. My previous experience makes me quickly effective in public health, and those I work with soon learn this.”
Sara
Sara completed various posts as a senior house officer, travelled extensively, and trained in public health to consultant level. Ten years after her last clinical job she entered part time training in general practice.
“I think people judged me only on my clinical expertise and against their expectations of a “normal” general practice registrar. I gave up trying to get involved in practice development, although I had a great deal of experience in this area.”
