Table 2. Reconstitution of polyunsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis in yeast.

The yeast strains INVSc1, transformed with pYES2-OtD6 and pESC-LEU-PSE1-PtD5 or the corresponding empty vectors, were grown for 48 h at 20 °C in the presence of 250 μM C18:29,12 or C18:39,12,15. FAMEs from whole cells were prepared and analysed by GLC as indicated in the Materials and methods section. Each value corresponds to the percentage of total fatty acids and is the mean±S.D. for five independent experiments.
