Each GSL class has a characteristic core structure as indicated by underlining in the table, i.e., Galα4Gal for globo-series; Galβ3GlcNAc for lacto-series type 1; Galβ4GlcNAc for lacto-series type 2; GalNAcβ4Gal and SAα3Gal for ganglio-series.
