Schematic diagram of cell membrane arrays for drug discovery. The 64 250-μm × 250-μm corrals are separated by 750 μm of chrome which prevents contamination of supported membranes from one corral to another. Each corral contains a supported lipid bilayer membrane which displays different molecules or different concentrations of the same molecule. The array elements are subsequently exposed to ligands or live cells, allowing for observation of differences in binding or cell biological events among the corrals. Each array resides in a single well of a 96-well plate, facilitating multiplexed assays.
