Effect of ischemia reperfusion injury. After 25 days reperfusion, the fraction of lost cardiac myocytes (a) appears larger in JAM-A-/- mice (*, P < 0.05 vs. JAM-A+/+) when compared with the respective sham-operated mice (JAM-A-/-, n = 10; JAM-A+/+, n = 6); n.d., not detectable. (b) Compensatory hypertrophy of cardiac myocytes surviving ischemia-reperfusion was significantly higher in JAM-A-/- than in JAM-A+/+ (*, P < 0.05 vs. JAM-A+/+;§, P < 0.05 vs. JAM-A-/- sham; #, P < 0.05 vs. JAM-A+/+ sham mice).
