| Standards | Rationale and Operational Guidelines |
| Be punctual. | Try your best to arrive on time for sessions and warm up with the group. Respect session start and end times to ensure a smooth flow of play for other participants and players who use the courts after sessions. |
| Be courteous. | Allow other players to warm up or finish their game if courts are being shared. Be patient and wait your turn without interrupting ongoing play. Use down time to stay hydrated and stay “loose”, such as by stretching or walking laps around the outside of the courts. |
| Use effective communication. | Use clear verbal cues with partners such as calling out “mine” or “yours”, to avoid confusion or collisions when going for a shot. Communicate respectfully with partners and opponents, maintaining a friendly atmosphere and good sportsmanship. |
| Respect personal space. | Avoid physical contact and give other players enough room to make their shots comfortably. Avoid being a “ball hog” so that your partner has opportunities to practice and develop their game, regardless of their experience or skill level. |
| Maintain a reasonable noise level. | Avoid loud or distracting noises that could disrupt other players’ focus. |
| Retrieve stray balls. | Pause game play and promptly pick up and return balls that roll onto your court from other courts. Warn players on other courts when your ball rolls onto their court to maintain safety. |
| Stay within court boundaries. | Avoid chasing balls that go out of bounds onto neighboring courts or into areas where other activities are taking place. |
| Control your temper. | Remain calm and composed, even in competitive situations. Avoid displaying anger or frustration and treat fellow players with respect, regardless of the outcomes of points or games. |
| Offer friendly assistance. | Provide friendly advice or guidance to fellow players, especially those new to the game, but make sure the recipient desires this feedback before providing it. This helps create a supportive environment and encourages skill development. |
| Maintain a clean environment. | Take responsibility for your belongings and clean up any trash or equipment you have used. Leave the court area clean and organized for the next players. |
