Data were rank-transformed for analysis to normalize residuals. Playbacks included control thornbill songs, and mobbing–mobbing, aerial–mobbing and aerial–aerial alarm calls. Alarm playbacks consisted of a species-specific thornbill alarm followed by thornbill mimicry of a New Holland honeyeater alarm. n = 20 focal birds, each receiving all treatments.
