Egg activation with ionomycin (10 μm) results in the elevation of the fertilization envelope because of cortical granule fusion in eggs (left panels, n = 3). In contrast no fertilization envelope can be detected in eggs preinjected with 7 nmol of BAPTA (right panels, n = 4).
