The output layer of the NN defines control point displacements relative to the displacement of the ‘middle layer’ of control points, ${\stackrel{\mathbf{ˆ}}{\mathbf{u}}}_n^{\left(i\right)}$, where ‘middle layer’ refers to the value of control points at ${\xi }_2=0.5$. After mapping these points to actual control point displacements, these then define the displacement on the entire domain $\mathbf{u}\left(\mathit{\xi }\right)$. Other important aspects of training include where the contact search occurs; the contact search algorithm runs after displacements $\mathbf{u}\left(\mathit{\xi }\right)$ are computed to compute the potential energy of a given sample $\Pi \left[p,{\theta }^k\right]$. This step occurs for each sample at each epoch, and is costly.
