CD4^loCD40^hi T cells induce severe insulitis and diabetes in NOD.scid recipients correlating to the numbers of cells injected. Pancreata from experiments described in Figs. 5 and 6 were fixed and stained as described in the legend to Fig. 5. Histology was scored for T cell infiltrate and granulation using a 3-point system described (20).
