The basic unit is the dimer which can either exist fully oxidized (square), fully reduced (oval), or partially oxidized (bullet shaped). The reduced dimer can oligomerize and attach to the thylakoid membrane. The regulatory cycle is linked to the redox potential as indicated by the scale at the left.
