PBMCs from M. bovis-infected cattle (n = 4) or control cattle (n = 4) were stained with PKH67; cultured with medium alone, rESAT-6-CFP10 (10 μg/ml), or M. bovis PPD (5 μg/ml) for 6 days; stained for CD4, CD8, and CD45RO; and analyzed for proliferation. Data represent the mean (±SEM) numbers of cells that had proliferated per 10,000 PBMCs minus values from nonstimulated (medium alone) cultures. A single asterisk indicates a significant difference (P < 0.05) from M. bovis-infected animals compared to noninfected control animals. A double asterisk indicates a significant difference (P < 0.01) from M. bovis-infected animals compared to noninfected control animals.
