Radial densities of ground state electrons (red) and holes (blue) as a function of valence band shift for a CuS/ZnS core/shell nanocrystal with R = H = 1.6 nm (corresponding to a total diameter of approximately 6.5 nm). For clarity, the core and shell regions are shown in different shades of gray (dark and light, respectively). The pronounced oscillations in the curves are due to the discrete nature of the atomic layers. Notably, the maxima of the electron and hole distributions often appear at different distances from the center of the nanocrystal. The dashed lines surrounding the radial density curves are for visual guidance only.
