Memory task for Experiment 3. Participants viewed images during an MRI scan and covertly identified that image, such as bowtie pasta or flamingo. On the second day, participants were scanned while viewing words in a recognition memory task. If the image was seen on Day 1, they would rate 3 or 4 for probably or definitely old. If the image was not seen on Day 1, they would rate 1 or 2 for definitely or probably new.
