Continuous variables are presented by mean (SD) and compared by the t test, categorical variables are presented by count (percent) and compared by the χ2 test, and the number of vascular risk factors is presented by median (interquartile range) and compared by the Kruskal-Wallis test.
For comparison of race/ethnicity, cells of groups other than non-Latino White were merged because of few individuals in the corresponding cells.
Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol was available in 678 participants; high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride were available in 684 participants.
