Concept Definition
Advanced multimorbidity The co-existence of two or more serious or life-limiting illnesses [1114]
Uncertainty ‘Known Unknowns’, characterised as inadequate understanding, a sense of incomplete, ambiguous or unreliable information, and conflicting alternatives [20]
Irreducible uncertainty Uncertainty that cannot be fully eliminated or resolved. Also called aleatory uncertainty [21]. Prognostic uncertainty is a key example
Prognostic uncertainty Uncertainty about the future course of illness, including survival, but incorporating broader physical, psychological, and social concerns such as future ability to undertake daily activities [19]
