^aCells were grown in MOPS-buffered minimal medium containing 274 mM glycerol and 8 mM propionic acid. Expression of the plasmid-encoded genes was fully induced with 0.1% arabinose when the cell density reached an OD₆₀₀ of 0.15. The values are means ± standard errors for triplicate experiments.
