^aP. putida DOT-T1 and F1 were introduced at a density of 10⁶ CFU per g of fluvisol soil which contained water at a level of 30% of the field carrying capacity. Then 10% (vol/wt) toluene was added, and samples were incubated for 8 days at different temperatures. Serial dilutions were then plated onto selective culture medium, and the numbers of CFU per g of soil were determined.
