The lengths of 17 VNTR loci appear to correlate, and these loci can be classified into two groups. Correlation coefficients (r; in boxes) were calculated for each pair of VNTR loci based on the lengths of the alleles. Negative and positive r values indicate negative and positive correlations, respectively. Zeros denote statistically insignificant correlations. Two major groups of VNTR loci, one marked with asterisks and the other not marked, represent the loci having positive correlations to one another in the same group (shaded cells). However, VNTR loci of these two groups are negatively correlated to each other (unshaded cells).
