The inhibition of the growth of S. enterica serovar Typhimurium strain SL1344 is pH dependent. Serovar Typhimurium SL1344 (5 × 105 CFU/ml) was exposed to MRS-HCl (pH 4.5 or pH 6.5), or MRS-LA (60 mM, pH 4.5) in the presence of LB (A) or DMEM (B) for 0 to 18 h at 37°C. There was a significant difference (P < 0.01) between MRS-HCl (pH 6.5) or MRS-LA (60 mM, pH 6.5) and MRS-HCl (pH 4.5) or MRS-lactic acid (60 mM, pH 4.5), respectively, in the presence of LB (A) or DMEM (B).
