Time course of plasma nitrate. Conscious mice received an i.v. injection of S. enterica serovar enteritidis LPS (100 μg) or recombinant S. enterica serovar muenchen flagellin (FLG; 100 μg) and were killed after 4 or 8 h for the measurement of plasma nitrate. A group of naive mice (n = 5) was used as controls. LPS and flagellin induced a progressive increase in plasma nitrate that was more pronounced after LPS. n = 9 to 10 animals/group at each time point.
