Effect of sialylation of neisserial LOS on cytokine production by DC. DC (5 × 10⁵ per well) were infected at an MOI of 1 with wild-type strain MC58 and the MC58 lst, MC58 siaD, and MC58 lst siaD mutant strains. Infections were performed in RPMI 1640 medium containing 1% autologous human plasma and CMP-NANA (2 μg/ml). DC supernatants were sampled at 6 h p.i. and assessed for TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8 by ELISA.
