hBD2, but not hBD1, inhibits single-round HIV infection. The TZM cell line was incubated in the presence of 100 to 0.78 μg/ml of β-defensins for 1 h at 37°C, followed by infection with HIVBaL (A) or HIVNL4-3 (B) as detailed in Materials and Methods. After 16 h, the cells were lysed and luminescence was determined. All assays were performed in duplicate.
