What determines acidosis?
• H+ intake and endogenous H+ generation |
• H+ excretion (TA+NH4+ - HCO3-) |
TA (mainly phosphate) is dependent on urine pH and the amount of buffer available (i.e. phosphate balance) |
NH4+ is dependent on NH3/NH4+ generation and delivery (PT, TAL reabsorption and CD ‘trapping’) |
HCO3- is dependent on urine pH and pCO2 |
