What determines acidosis?

• H+ intake and endogenous H+ generation
• H+ excretion (TA+NH4+ - HCO3-)
     TA (mainly phosphate) is dependent on urine pH and the amount of buffer available (i.e. phosphate balance)
     NH4+ is dependent on NH3/NH4+ generation and delivery (PT, TAL reabsorption and CD ‘trapping’)
     HCO3- is dependent on urine pH and pCO2
