Liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry-mass spectrometry chromatograms of exhaled breath condensate (EBC). Samples from an asthmatic child (A and B) and a healthy child (C and D) are shown. The ions m/z 195 (A and C) and m/z 197 (B and D) were used to monitor endogenous leukotriene (LT) B4 and LTB4-d4 (internal standard), respectively. LTB4 concentrations in EBC, calculated using peak area ratios for LTB4/LTB4-d4, were 87 pg/15 min (healthy child) and 450 pg/15 min (asthmatic child).
