Arrowheads indicate the derived states, as inferred or established by typing nonhuman primates (Jobling and Tyler-Smith 1995; Jobling et al. 1996, 1997; Hurles et al. 1998). Blackened circles are proportional to haplogroup frequency, and unblackened circles indicate haplogroups detectable but not found in our set of 129 Y chromosomes from northwestern Africa.
