Results are the average of triplicate experiments with duplicate endospore preparations with one standard deviation. The germination profiles of GERAd, GERXd, and GERYd are identical to parental 34F2. The germination profile of GERHd is identical to one already published (31) and is omitted for clarity. − or +, Without or with 10 mM IPTG added to the sporulation culture at the time of inoculation, respectively; this had no effect on germination of the parental strain (omitted for clarity).
