Concentration dependence of inhibition of P₇₀₀⁺ reduction. Dark-adapted cells were incubated in the dark in the presence of Suc (black squares), Glc (white squares), KCl (black circles), NaCl (white circles), and K₂HPO₄ (black triangles). After 20 min, flash-induced 703 to 730 absorbance changes (i.e. −ΔI/I) were measured. The fractions P₇₀₀⁺ remaining oxidized 10 ms after a saturating flash is plotted against the concentration of solute. Absorbance values were normalized to the maximum value after a series of 10 flashes in the presence of 10 μm DBMIB.
