Sedative response to the α_2A-agonist dexmedetomidine requires more than 50% α_2A-AR functional complement. Sedative responses to dexmedetomidine were measured as loss of righting reflex after i.p. injection of dexmedetomidine (Dex). *, No sedative response. The term [α_2A-AR] reflects the relative concentration of α_2A-AR, quantified by saturation binding, in particulate brain membrane preparations derived from mice of the indicated genotypes.
